The Oregon Osteoporosis Center was founded in 1980 and has two locations in Portland, Oregon, one in Vancouver, Washington, and one in Salem, Oregon. The Center provides a comprehensive program focusing on the evaluation and management of patients with osteoporosis, with four major components:
= A consultative clinic for the care of patients with or at risk for osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases
= A referral bone density laboratory providing results and interpretations of excellent quality, reliability, and reproducability for referring physicians
= A clinical research center evaluating new therapies and diagnostic tools for osteoporosis and other forms of metabolic bone disease
= A provider of educational resources and activities for healthcare providers and patients in Oregon and across the country
These activities place the OOC in a very special position. We help generate answers to important clinical questions through research, translate those answers into practice management strategies for specialists and primary care providers, and apply the results to patients in our clinic.
The Center is privately funded with revenues from clinical activities and from the pharmaceutical and medical device industries for the conduction of clinical research trials. OOC is not a subsidiary of any hospital or medical group, but we work in close partnership with several of the regional health systems.
